today i got my new case from a kind MM member, the Antec super lanboy (£28!! what a bargain!!) . initially it was a toss up between this, the antec sonata and the coolermaster ammo but 95% of you said to go with this so here i am...

first thing to note is that its tiny!!! had a little trouble with the cd drives as the bottom mount for them backs on to the Ram chips, clever boy who ever designed my mobo. i also had trouble with my fan controller in that ive had to remove one of the knobs in order to get the door shut, but ive patched it up so it looks o.k. anyway, its all stuffed in their nice and neat now, ive gotta say i think lights on cases are akin to chavs vauxhall novas with blue strips on the bottom, but given the performance of this case i will make an exception.

TEMPS:

before: (recorded in my old case)
GPU temp 55oC (X1800XT)
HDD temp 33oC
CPU external (surface) temp 32oC
CPU internal temp 37oC (its an AMD a3000+ clocked from 1.8Ghz to 2.4Ghz)
system temperature 35oC

New case:
GPU temp 53oC (X1800XT)
HDD temp 28oC
CPU external (surface) temp 30oC
CPU internal temp 32oC (its an AMD A3000+ clocked from 1.8Ghz to 2.4Ghz)
system temperature 31oC

initial impressions are all good and it seems the as2 i found in a drawer has helped too

now im not sure what section this should go in because its about cooling my overclocked system, but i will leave that to the mods to figure out,

all i will say is this is the first non generic case i have ever bought and the first one ive bought myself in 5 years, the old one i had was big, but not up to todays modern formats, i.e. no front ports, only 80mm fan ports, it did have a handle though, and by the time i had finished with the bolt cutters at the rear, it had 1 120mm fan bay at least

p.s. excuse the trashy wallpaper, its the attick and it hasnt been decorated for a looooong time due to it now being a workshop / study :)

im enjoying it a lot, especially the noise level :D sooooo much quieter than my old jet engine :) the guys on teamspeak have been asking me if i had bought a new mic as its so damn clear to them now, they are used to me sounding like im hoovering at the same time :)

it was indeed a very tight squeeze and at the moment i can only hook 1 opticle drive up as the IDE cable is not long enough :( but when i switch to SATA later this week i will have freed up an IDE cable so will plumb it all in then.

the downside is its creating a hell of a draft and im freezing!!!

That small temperature drop could be a slight few degrees less in room temp lol

im in the attick, its always warm up here as heat has a tendency to rise... and temp drops of between 2 and 8 degrees across the board isnt small ;)

okeydokey, just for the record, its the case that has dropped my temps, period.

the ambiant temperature of the attick stays pretty constant due to the boiler being up here plus insulation as its a propper loft conversion, hence why i said its always warm, the only temps you get up here are warm, hot and baking.

my old case was hoovered regularly as it was on the floor and we have a cat, cat fur and fans are not friends.

my last case had an 80mm fan at the front and a 120mm noisy akasa thing at the rear, it wasnt as wide as the lanboy so the airflow would slam into the graphics card and pool there untill the 120mm could pull it through. the new case is wider and has 2X 120 mm high CFM low rpm bays, and due to the cable management features of this case (my last had none so i had to use cable ties) the air flow is brilliant.

sam, its not a wise idea to come onto a forum and pick an argument with 3 people who have been here a very very long time (pay no attention to the join dates, they dont exactly work very well given ive been here since 2003). you should have just let it drop and gone on your way and nobody would have thought anything of it, as it stands youve trashed the thread, your posts come across as extreamly argumentative and as ive just informed you, were not needed and are wrong.
