Hi.

Having moved to a new build 4 bedroom house, over 3 floors, I want to replace the old BT Whole Home Wifi set-up that I have.

My reason for doing so is that it seems like old technology, and I want to be able to set timers for the kids using the Internet beyond a certain time. Issues with the BT ones are preventing me from doing so, so I thought an upgrade would be in order.

Each room has an ethernet access point, so I have a disc on each floor. Mirroring this approach seems like the easiest option, but I'm open to ideas.

The incoming Internet supply is located in the garage. I then have ethernet cables connected to a multiswitch into the room panels.

Unifi seems to be well considered, so seems to be good value. Can anyone advise in layman's terms on what they feel would be the best solution and setup, please?

Thank you.

I’m sure other brands will do what you want but Ubiquiti’s UniFi can restrict internet easily and you could create a VLAN for your kids devices, be they wired or WiFi, and block access on a schedule.

You’d need a gateway, Cloud Gateway Ultra, CGU, or Cloud Gateway Max, CGM, with a PoE switch along with several AP’s would do it. The CGU if you don’t need cameras and your internet is not above 1gb and you don’t need after than 1gb LAN or the CGM if your internet is above 1gb and you want 2.5gb LAN.
