Home audio setup with AVR and Google Audio

Hi all,

Trying to figure out a whole-home audio solution and wondering if anyone has any ideas. I've tried researching various avenues but most other users with similar needs tend to be quite specific and wouldn't necessarily fit mine.

My current set up is a Denon AVR X-2000 attached to 2x monitor audio BX5 floor standers with a chromecast audio. I also have a couple of google homes throughout the house.

What I'm trying to achieve is a way of playing music through all the speakers without having to manually switch on the AVR first. I've managed this with CEC from a normal chromecast, but that means the TV gets turned on and also I can't create an audio group so this is far from perfect. I can set up an audio group so if I switch the AVR on and change the input it all works perfectly, but I want to remove this step.

I have a few questions.

Firstly, I bought the AVR about 5 years ago with the intention of setting up a home cinema, but then decided to move to london and go back to uni, both of which killed my disposable income and free space, so this idea is shelved for at least a few more years - probably longer.
With this in mind, is the AVR overkill and not ideal for my circumstances? Should I sell it and find a dedicated amp to power the speakers? I'd want an optical in so I could still run the TV audio through it but I don't need the other AV functions of an AVR.

I want to spend minimal money, so does anyone know of any cheap (~£200) amps that would help solve my problem (ones that can sense audio input and switch on/off accordingly, or otherwise I've seen some suggestions for amps that I could leave switched on 24/7 that would use minimal electricity, but would these work with the floorstanders?)

Alternatively I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any. I've seen a Harmony Hub suggested as a way of potentially powering up the AVR, but unsure if I'd end up with a messy CEC setup? I don't want the TV switching on everytime I play some music.

Appreciate any thoughts anyone might have
