Have theses devices:
Harmony hub
Hue lights
Amazon echo
Sonoff switches (on the way)

What is the easiest to use/pick up home automation server? Openhab2, Home assistant?

Will be using iPad, Android phone and voice via echo to control.

I'm currently tinkering with openhab and mosquito on a raspberry pi.

Home Assistant and HAB both have pre-built images if you want to try that way, though my personal opinion is that it's easier to learn and trouble shoot if you install yourself.

The reading I've done suggests Home Assistant is easier, but I'm a novice and doing ok with HAB.

Even with a home server don't you still need to set up external 3rd party services, ie accounts on harmony and ewelink?
the sonoffs I am going to flash a different firmware so not dependant on 3rd party cloud services, using mqtt instead.

decided on openhab2, plonked it on a pi zero w.

Somebody with an Amazon Echo in the USA had their Echo call the cops on them when they got into a heated argument with their spouse. I'm not joking, look it up. If you want to live in the book 1984 go ahead and buy it. I won't be.
