Hi all,

I want to build a NAS drive to store my videos, music and photos.
I've got 3 x 4TB WD Red drives already and a Windows 8.1 Pro Licence which I want to use.

I'll be buying a Fractal Design Node 804 case as well.

So which processor, motherboard, RAM, PSU should I purchase? I'd like something energy efficient if possible and also a small SSD for the OS (probably around 80gb)
I'll be running Flexraid so I won't need a raid card.
Also all the cables that are needed, and maybe an extra fan for cooling the drives.

Budget is £500 max

I think the most important bit with be the choice of NIC. I was running Freenas on a Via C7 with 1gb DDR2 ram! :-) it was in an Artigo A2000 build. Hell even that was good enough for streaming 1080p to my laptop / TV.

Is there any reason you have not considered the HP Microserver for £120? Seems to fit your requirements perfectly.

I had an N40l and it was fantastic but broke last week :(
I'm going to try and fix it but we'll see.

I bought a Gen8 and honestly I just found it really confusing with all the ILO and how to set up the raid and stuff, so I thought I'd leave that and just buy a new one which I know I'll be able to set up fairly easily.
