Home Cinema Help Needed

I have recently become the proud owner of a new Pioneer PDP436XDE and am now looking for a Home Cinema system.

Now I know very little with regards to home cinema's systems and amp's etc, so go easy on me ;). Am I correct in thinking that regardless of the brand of system I choose the TV remote can be used to control the sound etc, or would I need a Pioneer system in order to do this? I don't want 8 different remotes next to me everytime the TV is on, so the fewer the better.

Does anyone know of a Home Cinema System that has the following:
*HDMI Output
*DVD Player with a HDD 80gb-plus (I presume I can record anything with this even programs I watch on NTL, and copy to DVD media discs.)
*5.1 Surround with at least 100W Subwoofer

Or would I be better off going the separates route? Could you recommend me some? Should I stick with Pioneer, or would I be better going with a different brand to get better quality?

DVD Recorder
Amplifier
Speakers
Sub

My budget is £1000 so anything you can help me with would be much appreciated.

I would personally go the separates route - as there are almost always comprimises with all in one systems.

Many AV amps have learning remotes, that need to be taught the frequent functions on all your kit - unless it is all the same brand, when normally, there is a inbuilt library of that manufactuers codes.

Brands to consider ( in no particular order ) Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, Pioneer - they all make decent stuff, with their own distinct virtues & foibles.

Your best bet as has been mentioned many times, is audition, before you buy.

Now that looks like it would fit the bill!

Of course :)

You might want to consider an HDMI scaling DVD player and a seperate HDD recorder, most recorders don't have the greatest playback IMHO

With the recording thing, just because you have a DVD recorder will not mean you have a twin tuner so you still won't be able watch one channel and record another so another choice might be to get the cable package which comes with a PVR and twin tuners and a better DVD player.
