hi guys/gals,

I just bought the Philips 42PF7621D LCD TV.

i have no idea about home cinema really and i am
looking for some advice.I.E prices, what i can get
for my money, essential things i should have and
other stuff.

Also i have no clue about dvd upscaling and HD home theatre.
Ideally i would like to spend from about £100-£500.

Hi mate, in the same situation as yourself but have been doing a little research.

One of the most important things I've learned is that all ears are different, if you're going to be buying kit you should maybe pop along to your local hi fi store for an informal chat and ask for a demo of systems that are within your budget.

In truth, you can spend as little or as much as you want - do remember that quality always comes at a price and if you do decide to go down the more expensive route make sure you justify the purchase by using good quality cabling.

There are a couple of packages that I'm considering which will retail at about £250ish if you look around:

Yamaha AV59 pack (includes an RXV359 receiver and NSP110 speakers)
Sony Home Cinema 6.1 HDMI HT-DDW880 system (includes a HDMI switcher)

Other packs can include DVD players but these two are just receivers and speakers only

Both of these will offer an upgrade path say for example if you wanted to improve the speaker setup at some point in the future.

So you spent about a grand and a half on the TV and expecting to get the rest of the stuff for £100!?!

Forget about DVD upscaling, it's wasted effort, just get a decent player within your budget as the TV will do the scaling.
