I have decided that it is well past time for me to get home contents insurance.
I have around £8000 worth of computer equipment and work offshore/abroad for up to a month at a time and I worry like mad when I'm away.

Do any of you have good/cheap policies? If so, where from?

Tesco Insurance are looking favourite at the moment at about £134 per annum - unless someone can suggest another provider :)

Stan :)

Cheapest quote I've had recently (looking as moving house soon, touch wood) was from More Than, but then a lot of insurers, including Tesco, won't insure us because we have a single item above their limit.

I realise that.

The policy conditions from all the quotes I've had so far have been almost identical (i.e. new for old, accidental damage, laptop cover away from home etc.).

I'll have a look at Zurich, thanks :)

Stan :)

Not impressed with Zurich - they don't insure furnished rented properties (and their site doesn't support Firefox). They suggested I go to their partners, Endsleigh - I've already had a quote from them.

Any more?

One thing to be careful of is that some insurance companies wont insure you if your way for more than 30 days at a time - could be a factor?

Even if I'm away for a month, there's usually someone passing through at some point whilst I'm away so the flat is never completely unoccupied for that length of time.

yeah but you know how these insurance firms like to wriggle out of paying up if the can!

Whilst i agree I would say i have found Zurich one of the most expensive companies i have ever had quotes from for various things they are utterly extortianate beyond beleif. I use More than myself and have whacked quite a few things on the policy cover wise, and it works out about £200 a year. Dont go for cheapest as really its quite cheap anyway.

I personally use HSBC, but that's purely because I bank with them. Same kind of policy as you've mentioned but that's considerably more at £23 p/m.

Bigstan - I suggest the Royal Bank of Scotland, fairly cheap and good cover. You also get a discount if you have a royalties account with them. Think my policy is £130ish pa for 15k cover.
