Hey there, My Brother would like to get a system for his room as his go to PC.
He doesn't want to do gaming on it, he would only use it for streaming and Media Consumption. He said he didn't want to go over £800, I HAD to convince him that that is WAY too much considering what he want's to do with it. Maybe a small SSD for boot. OS is not need, He likes to change OS a lot, whether that be Linux or Windows. Peripherals are needed though, as well as a monitor.

So he needs a system that:
  • Looks Nice
  • Powerful enough to do HD streaming
  • Has potential for upgrades.

Thanks for the help.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AOC E2460SH 24" Widescreen 1ms Gaming LED Monitor - Black £113.99
1 x Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £55.99
1 x Antec TruePower Classic 550w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £55.99
1 x SK Hynix 128GB SSD SH910A SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (HFS128G32MNB-2201A) £49.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TPKD38G1600HC11DC01) £47.99
1 x Asus H81M-PLUS Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £40.99
1 x Toshiba (7K1000.D) 1TB SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache - OEM (DT01ACA100) HDD £39.95
1 x Raijintek Agos Midi Tower - Black £39.95
1 x Gigabyte KM5300 Compact Keyboard Set £8.45
Total : £468.29 (includes shipping : £12.50).

That has a solid base for upgrades, be it GPU or CPU - H81 board will take current gen i3/i5/i7 and has a PCI-E slot for a graphics card in the future. 8GB RAM also which is nice for gaming and for having a tonne of tabs open - the Pentium K can be overclocked on this board also with the right BIOS which is nice :)

or if you wanted something a bit more graphically powerful right now;

1 x Gigabyte KM5300 Compact Keyboard Set £8.45
Total : £483.29 (includes shipping : £12.50).

But less made for upgrades, will only take FM2 CPUs and the CPU is probably a bit less powerful overall

The first one will be more than enough for HD streaming, the pentium is snappy enough and has room for upgrades
On both you can install the OS from USB sticks or add a £13 optical drive

Your brother may like the look of the bitfenix Neos too :)

Would mATX be a better compromise between size and expandability for you or must it be ITX? I see your sig is ITX Freak :D

Larger PSU for support of powerful GPUs in the future, as well as the case supporting longer GPUs (the Xigmatek one only supports something like 230mm one's) and also a larger SSD, which should reached advertised speeds whereas that Kingston one was subject to some sort of switch bait

If you went mATX you could get the H81M-K + 8GB RAM + i5 bundle in there possibly!

or i3

Z97 to upgrade to a more powerful CPU that can then be over clocked.
I removed the G3258 to get closer to £400, but a G3258 can be over clocked on the stock cooler nicely.

8GB of fast RAM that is very good for the price.
Great SSD, 128GB large, and a case that isn't hideous for £25!

For me? I just prefer to go as small as possible so it's only personal preference so that's just how I do my specs, try to be a bit different rather than just speccing the same old kit all the time!

He said no gaming so I didn't bother about future proofing the PSU and I tried to give him a funky looking case, and I had no idea about that Kingston SSD
