I've got a Windows based HTPC up and running, and would like to extend its functionality. I would like a Dropbox type facility where the HTPC is the "cloud" and all other PC's and gadgets can access the files.

What's the best software for that? Preferably something with an Android app to compliment it.

I use Google Drive to keep all important files backed up and synched across multiple devices.

Files available from any browser or mobile device

Cheers.

I've installed the desktop app and it's asking for a server url. I'm looking to have it all work via home network?

You should be able to put in a local URL for example to access my server in windows explorer I just put in to the run box (or create an explorer shortcut to) \\server\Server Storage

You can set dropbox to sync via LAN

Or just use a windows lan share and something like es file explorer on the android to access

+1 for Owncloud,
The new version (version 7) is pretty refined now, and installs with little fuss (on Linux at least, not tried Windows)

The Android app now finally supports camera sync, so I feel I can now finally ditch Dropbox without losing any functionality.
