Home Gym - Dehumidifier

I got a Meaco DD8L 8 Litre Desiccant Dehumidifier as they can work in colder temperatures and our gym is in the garage so wanted the option to use it there, haven't actually used it in there yet though as haven't sealed around the garage door etc and condensation hasn't been that bad this year.

But it's been great for in the house in general, had issues with signs of mould around windows etc from drying clothes indoors in the past but no signs since using it really.

"Dry mode, also known as dehumidification mode, is an air conditioner setting that reduces humidity levels in a room. It's useful in humid areas where the air feels damp and sticky, even if the temperature is not high. "

Ha, yes what I read was very wrong. Admittedly this was during a Zwift session and phone googling between intervals was probably not the best place to research.

Just gone out and turned it onto dry mode. It's still dripping wet inside from this mornings session!

Thank you. You’re right. It’s not appearing to do anything.
worth a try before you spent the dosh.

IF it is a cold room then desiccant dehumidifier will be a good choice, it will be like a small heater so it will cost a bit.

Usually a 10L desiccant is 650W and a compressor 10L desiccant is 250W, it makes a big difference especially if you don't have lower rate so unless you exercise after midnight or if you have home batteries.

The water on your window is condensation of warm moist air hitting the cold window, wipe it off and take the towel out of the room I bet that will be 10p worth of electric already :P

Lucky you, my solar panels generate next to nothing December and January
Ripple wind farm is going strong but solar farm not online yet.

They aren’t very good at dehumidifying, not down to any reasonable level that stops mold and condensation.

Just get a desiccant dehumidifier. I’ve now set mine to come on with the night EV cheap tariff.

All air cons dehumidify, that's why they have a drain hose to the outside where water comes out

However the amount of water they can extract per day is very low compared to a dehumidifier. My dehumidifier can extract 40 litres of water a day, where as my air con can probably only do 1 or 2 litres

Of course they do, but as you say, far far less than a purpose built dehumidifier, especially in the winter in colder rooms. Our units state 60% at best. Not enough to stop mold and condensation, as I found out the hard way when I took our dehumidifier unit out of the bedroom and into to my gym.

Dessicant dehumidifier is perfect for the gym where it’s colder. Also adds a bit of warmth.

TBH the outside air is pretty dry if you want to just ventilate and reheat. My house is currently 35-40% RH all winter.

We’ve had a lot of really damp days this winter.

Best way to keep humidity down during your session is to have good air flow, either run your air con with window open or just have the window open at the least. I have a dehumidifier for my garage gym, i run mine for 1-2 hours before my session and as it pumps out a little heat i leave it on depending on temps. However but yours looks like a fully insulated setup that shouldn't require it with the right amount of air movement even?

Yeah, mine is pretty much a sealed box. Insulated floors, walls, celing. I'll keep the doors open and look to buy a unit that's been suggested above. It will be interesting to see how much it can pull out of the air that's in the room.
