I put a claim in with my insurance provider after I accidentally broke my tv. My TV is over 5 years old and when i bought it was around £900, (Samsung 51inc plasma 3d smart tv).

It looks like from the latest update they are considering issuing me with a pc world/Currys voucher for £650. Would you consider this reasonable? I will lose my investment in 3d blu rays and glasses though as it won't be enough for a 3d tv, they are rare beats these days!

Cheers all :)

We will at Our option – replace with the nearest current equivalent – any necessary repair – pay in cash Our replacement cost for loss or damage

I think it's difficult to work out what the current equivalent will be seeing as 3d is not really around these days. In every other respect I'm sure I can get an equivalent quality TV for the amount suggested, although I will really miss the plasma panel, the deep blacks are great for films. I'm not too bothered about 4k as I don't have any 4k content, although I do think HDR looks great.

You could argue that that budget won't get you something with the equivalent features, it's probably worth trying. That said, I'm not sure I'd have ever called 3D Blu-ray an "investment".

Well it's not an investment in terms of retaining or gaining value, but I do have a fair few 3d films and 6 sets of glasses. I don't need 3d but I will miss it a bit, only upside is that the production of 3d blu rays will stop meaning I won't miss anything new.
