Can't beleive I am thinking about this already but thinking about getting one for xmas!

As in a proper, squash my own fruit, kit. Not some of these additives kits that come up on google. But apart from knowing I need apples and a something to "brew" it in got no idea what I all need. Any suggestions for reading or pointers towards kits?

You in Glasgow? Homebrew shop (google innhousebrewery) sell apple presses. You'll need one of them, lots of apples, muslin and a fermentation vessel.
Press apples, strain, put in FV, wait, bottle/barrel, age... Drink.
Post in the home brewing thread in la cuisine. That shop, in Patrick, is great.

There's a brewshop in Edinburgh but can't remember where it is. You can make a simple press quite easily, guides can be found through googling. Cider is easy to make, but the taste is all in the ageing and what you store it in (normally oak).
