I had a few potatoes on the way out so I thought I had better use them up, and what better way than home made crisps?

Very simple to make and delicious.

All you'll need is;

Potatoes
Oil
Seasoning (in this recipe I used Salt and pepper, but any mix of herbs and spices to get a flavour you like would work, a few other ideas are Paprika, chilli or BBQ seasoning)

1) First peel you potatoes, and then use a peeler to slice them in to thin pieces.

2) Lay the potatoes on kitchen roll and dry them off.

3)Heat a few centimetres of oil in a frying pan and add the potato slices, turning a few times while browning.

4) When browned, remove them from the pan, and drain off any excess oil.

5)Place in a bowl with more kitchen paper and and add the seasonings, mix them around a bit to get a proper coating.

They look good, if a little greasy. You'd need a pretty big fryer to make a bag full though.

You need to keep them separate when you cook them, otherwise they stick together, that's the only trouble with cooking a lot of them in one go.

And they look greasy as I took the picture a few seconds after they came out of the fryer. they dry out after a few minutes :)

Extremely impressive, but I can't help feeling that home-made crisps are much like puff pastry in falling within the 'life is too short' category to make yourself.

That being said, I'd agree with arc@css about going down the 'root' of vegetables instead of potatoes.
