Something I thought I'd share.

Used it a couple of times now works really well.

First time I did some turkey thigh joints and second a load of fried chicken. My aim is a whole turkey but I am struggling to get one at the moment.

I took the top off an empty gas cylinder, sanded it down, painted it with heat proof black paint, scrubbed the inside.

That goes on top of a gas burner. We made a little cage for the food to sit in (the basketball is modelling a turkey lol). Get a thermomter which works really well actually, but I have an infrared hand held thermometer as a backup.

Yeah you do obviously have to use a bit of common sense.

I keep a close eye on the temperature of the oil, as I would only be cooking larger things in that, you dont want it too hot anyway, the hottest ive taken it up to is about 150c but usually cooking about 130c/125c, which is fine for deep frying chicken thighs etc. That isnt anywhere near the auto-ignition temperature of the oil. Also turning the gas off before you place the food in, if something is going to go wrong it'll be at this point, not having the open flame at this point, then turn it back on after. And keep it away from the house, garden fence, keep kids away etc, if it does go up there is nothing you can do just stand back and enjoy the show, possibly could get a few marsh mellows out to toast over it.

I watched a King Of Random youtube where they intentionally tried to blow one up and it isnt actually that easy.

How much oil is there in there?
Is it just veg oil?
How often do you need to change it?
Do you just cover it when not in use?
How do you dispose of it after changing?

I'll use a jug and scoop it out, got loads of old bottles in the garage as I service our vehicles also, so it'll eventually end up and the r cycling center

Very impressive!

Those cooking temps seem very low to me. When I fry chicken at home I bring the oil (usually peanut oil for it's high smoke point) up to 177c. I use a good fry thermometer to be sure.

From the sounds of it you take safety very seriously, thankfully. When these things have a problem it's big and scary. Not to mention potentially deadly. I'm sure you know this but hot oil and water are a recipe for disaster. Never cook anything that's frozen and always thoroughly pat your food dry before cooking.

Would love a deep fat fryer to do propper KFC but I'd feel too guilty using it indoors because of the smell and mess.
Deffo needs som before, during, and money shot of some actual cooking in it!
