Just got a fantastic present from the missus for my birthday- a Whirlypop popcorn pan. It's a fantastic bit of kit that stirs your popcorn as it cooks on the stove to ensure nothing sticks and burns.

She also got me a pack of Zaramama popping corn- a sampler pack of different types. Hard to believe it all tastes quite different but it really does!

So far have just made plain salted and just did a batch with melted butter. Bad for the heart no doubt but great for the tastebuds!

Anyone else make their own popcorn? Got any tips for seasonings? It's so nice to make a fresh batch of it at home and be able to flavour it however you want.

Am going to buy some flavourings off the net but am keen to hear if anyone uses any home made ingredients to season it?

Butter and salt. Salt first otherwise it all sticks to the butter. Popcorn is fantastic and nothing like the stale cardboard cinema stuff.

Have you got any odd coloured samples? I've herd you can get blue.

Yep, blue, black and red

I really like the sweet toffee popcorns you can get. DIY toffee / caramel popcorn must be amazing mmm mmm.

There is a recipe here:

I may try it. Am going to order some flavourings online though. 'Kernels' seem to make the best range of flavours...
