I'm back baby!
Who makes their own?

I'm coming at this completely new and fresh. I've been wanting to do it for a while.

I can't find a local specialist around here for advice. Are there any good websites that you can use? Is there a big community of winemakers here??

Are the starter kits necessary, or is it better to go in properly? I don't want to buy a cheap starter kit and be put off by the product.

I've got a shopping list of the following:

2 x 5L fermentation bins
Airlock
Thermometer
Syphon
Trial Jar
Steriliser
Hydrometer

Would that be enough?

The site I've been using say you need a 'wine kit' as well as the outlined above 'starter kit'. What exactly would this consist of? Just the grape juice?

The wine kit should have along with the grape juice, a packet of yeast suitable for the strength of wine being made (as high % of alcohol will kill some yeasts). Also brewing sugar (Dextrose/ fructose?). You can use ordinary sugar but it needs to be converted to this form of sugar(s) to be usable to the yeast which takes energy and delays the alcohol formation. it's been a while since I made my own now that supermarkets sell it so cheap.

I'd check on a wine makers forum tbh, there must be a very active hombres community online somewhere,

On another note gilly is that post count of yours for real?? Seriously nearly dropped my ipad

I'd like to start with white, but that's for our lass. She's pregnant so hasn't been drinking.

Later on I'd like to do a deep full bodied red for me though.
