Evening all...

I'm after some advise for my home cinema set up.

I currently have a D-Link 2 bay NAS unit setup as a media server. I've previously had a PC set up for playback but wanted to streamline and make it simpler and quicker to use so changed to Amazon Fire Box with Kodi installed but although it was ok to start with playback isn't great now. I've also tried media playback on my PS4 but again, the playback is out of sync and not great.

I think there may be a HDD on its way out in my NAS unit but would that effect playback so much?

What would be the best and easiest way of getting a quick/easy and smooth playback device set up?

1. No.

2. How are you connecting the NAS to the media players? Wifi or wired network? Either way, it's more likely your network will be causing issues.

Tried to play back some files via my macbook air that are on the NAS and its either the laptop or NAS as the playback stuttered (more so than when played back through the fire box)

Was that using a wireless connection? What's your wireless network using? N or AC? Also, what NAS do you have? If it's low powered then it may not be able to push the files out fast enough to the media players.

That was on wireless although I'm not sure if that was the mac not being able to play the files via VLC as tried on a windows based laptop afterwards and seemed to play fine; both wireless

The NAS box I have is the DLink NAS 320 and the hub is the VM Superhub 2 although again I'm not sure if this is the newer one that supports ac
