Hi i was wondering if i could pick you guys brains! I need to build a small server mainly for media applications and mass storage, but ive never built a server before so i could use some advice starting with the hardware and the software also.

It needs to be based around a mini itx board as i have space constraints in the desk ill be building it in, have 10tb+ storage and was hoping to be around the £400 mark

Software wise whats the best for hassle free media streaming?

hope you guys can help, bit of a noob on the server front! lol

cheers

Have you looked at the countless other threads in this section which are on the exact same subject?

Most of the time people go for the HP Microservers, the N54L is only £130.
Add some storage and you are good to go.

3*3TByte drive = 9TBytes Not Raided @ £79.99 = £240 (Raided approx 6Tbytes)

1*30GByte SSD @ £26.99 (for the OS and fast storage, maybe a disk cache)

£130 + £240 + £27 = £397

If you use an open-source OS or something like NAS4FREE then you have enough for a pint and a few coppers for the charity box, that's if you live up north (Stoke):)
