Looking at either buying a pre-built NAS like a QNAP TAS-268 and running KODI or PLEX on it, or building my own solution.
Im a bit worried that the Qnap NAS wont have the grunt to stream 4K content to my 65" 4K TV without issues, so with that said ive decided to look into what it will cost to build something myself.
I dont want anything massive, something fairly small that i can fit a Bluray player, 2 x 2TB drives in and probably an AIO to cool it as i'd like to keep it low noise if possible.
So then i got looking at Software, and FreeNAS looks good and theres a few other options, or i could just go down the Win10 route and slap Plex or Kodi on the machine.
I was thinking i might need a fairly decent CPU for streaming 4K content? Has anyone any experience with this?
Wondering if i can get away with an AMD APU to stream 4K content (Not games) at 60hz with no stutter? failing that im looking at upgrading my 4770K in my main PC at some point soon, so could potentially use this instead, if i did would i need a small gpu as well to provide grunt for streaming?
Basically i want something that i can leave on, backup family pics, and videos of the kids to, backup the wifes coursework, my PC, slap MP3's and vidoes on, stream Netflix 4K and other 4K content from straight to my TV.
Thoughts?
