Guys im after a bit of advice here please.

We just decided to get my son a pc, he is only 9. Before i upgrade mine and build his ;) i need some networking advice.

I would like to be able to remotely configure / monitor his pc activities if i wish and also force things like shutdowns ect.

If possible i would like to be able to do this from my main pc and my partners laptop, which are both running Windows 7 Rc.

Both main Pc and Laptop have just the 'MyName' Admin accounts with no passwords, As i dont really like having different accounts, and everyones documents stored in different places, my storage drive is just shared for everyones documents.

Many thanks

To remotely monitor him, you could use something like VNC. This allows control of the pc and can be set up so that if you connect to it, the inputs of his pc can be ignored, so effectively you have full control.

To simply remotely shut down, you just need to type shutdown - i in the command prompt, which gives a nice gui for remotely shutting down a pc.

Other programs to consider are dameware, which is a paid for program, unlike vnc, which is free. There are several flavours of vnc, the one I have used in the past is realvnc and tightvnc.

It is very dangerous to not have passwords on your accounts, so I recommend changing that as soon as possible. If you log onto your partners pc it won't ask you for a password anyway if the username has been set up on her machine.

Apologies but im a real noob with user accounts and stuff.

With the shutdown - i command i keepo getting access denied.

Please can you explain how to set these accounts up properly.
