Clever people,

I have an understairs wifi router, 300mbps fttp
it seems running ethernet around the house isn't possible. Mesh wifi has done a great job around the house.

I want to have a NAS + Nvidia Shield Pro in my tv unit
I could connect the NAS to a mesh disk to get decent enough download speeds for the large (open source) video downloads I'll be doing.

But If I connect the NAS to the Shield as a network drive, and use a gigabit switch.... as the Shield retrieves NAS data, does that data route back to the router (NAS > switch > mesh disk > router > mesh disk > switch > Shield) or does the switch allow more direct transfer? (NAS > switch > Shield)

Hope this makes sense. Many thanks.

If you connect the NAS and shield to a switch in the cabinet, the data stays on that switch, not touching WiFi, that will be much more desirable than WiFi being involved as streaming high bandwidth 4K test files can be quite demanding - things can go north of 100MB/s.

The switch will connect to Mesh wifi disk, NAS and shield pro

So the NAS will be able to connect to internet ( NAS > Switch > mesh wifi > router) , and Shield (by just going NAS > Switch > Router)>

Thank you. Way over my head.

Yep, it’s not as bad as you think. Ideally you could run a cable from the router to the switch, but if you can’t, then this is likely your best option.

Would have been such an easy, cheap thing to have got ethernet put in as the house was being built but I just didn't consider it.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
