Firstly forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions but I'm a bit behind on networks and equipment these days.
I'm 25 now, when I was 17 I did a Cisco CCNA at school but a lot of that is forgotten now!
I'm moving house soon so would like some advice on what to run.
I'm with VM 30MB ATM and I've used routers in the past when using multiple devices but atm its just the one PC and wireless devices like phones. I simply just run the comp direct to modem where the network is hidden and password protected.
I know the increased security a router brings but in terms of speed would I gain anything from running a router? Building a new comp atm and have Maximum VI Hero which has Intel Game first 2 Ethernet port on, does anyone know if this will do 1Gb/S? Or is it worth investing in a nic?
So looking to the future when I move house and my comp is built, what's the best setup to run for only one PC that will be used for gaming and video streaming/surfing. Maybe having faster WiFi would be nice but again I'm not clued up, is 802.11g the standard for phones etc atm so 54Mbs is the cap?
Thanks guys!
