Hi guys, set up my network last night, both systems running vista.

But im stuck on how to do this...

Be able to see the other systems hard drive on my computer in *my computer* as a shared drive and vice versa with mine.

Any help would me much appreciated :)

You need to select or create a folder to share files in, set it as shared in the properties then ensure permissions are adequate for other users to browse and edit within it.
Once that's done you can map a network drive to that shared folder using the UNC path and credentials for a user account on the remote machine.

(Make sure that file sharing etc is permitted in the security settings)

That should be that.

I've had problems like this before as well. Despite setting up all the shared folders as per above I simply could not 'see' the desktop from the laptop.
However, I found that the desktop could see the laptop.
So, I made the connection in reverse if you like by sharing the folders on the laptop and then going to manage network on the desktop and navigating my way to them.
Once I could do that, I found that I couyld do the opposite from the laptop. I have no idea why...

Probably to do with name resolution or workgroups. Without a local DNS service attached to the DHCP service you'll be using netbios to get IP to name translation which will be slow and possibly not work at all with some security settings or differing workgroups. You can usually overcome this using a purely IP UNC path. eg \\10.0.0.10\share\folder rather than the PC name or "browsing" the network.
