Evening all,

I am looking for advice on what networking equipment to purchase for my home setup. I am wanting gigabit connectivity on the wired front to cope with gaming, streaming from a NAS and such. I am also wanting good WiFi connectivity for wireless N for mobile device and laptop use.

I am currently using my Virgin Superhub but once I have done the final setup of my AV system there won't be enough ports, plus no gigabit. I intend to put the Virgin Hub into router only mode, connected to the networking solution.

My current thought is an 8-port unmanaged gigabit switch with a wireless access point connected to one port and positioned centrally in the house for optimal coverage.

Returning to my first line, are there any recommended solutions along the lines of those described, and a particular manufacturer to steer towards? I should mention that the budget for this is fairly tight, and that I am only after a simple but effective setup.

Many thanks in advance.

Are you talking spreading wired connections throughout home or just 1 room?

On the wired front, it will be mostly fairly short range connections, but including an ethernet socket through to another room.
