home network super slow, switch problem?

hi, we have a virgin cable connection that came with a super hub
two PCs and a boxee box connected to the super hub have no problems

I also have a netgear GS605 switch connected, and attached to that I have another PC (PC3), a synology system and a USB printer

until recently I could access PC3 and the synology system fine, but all of a sudden my transfer speeds have dropped to 200-400kb/sec!!
(previously 20-40mb/sec)

the switch shows green lights and not orange, ie gigaspeed, and all the cables are good quality

if I connect either PC3 or the synology directly to the virgin super hub the problem goes away

that's why I thought it was the netgear switch , but I tried another switch same problem :(

any suggestions please?

i tired another 5e cable, and the same story: if just one device is connected to the switch access to that device is ok-ish at about 10mb/sec
is more than one device is connected (even if turned off) then the transfer speed drops to 400kb/sec...? what the!?
