Hi - im a bit rubbish when it comes to home networking......my situation is is that i have a vista media centre box under the tv which is wired to a bt home router, this works fine. but in my kitchen i have the more powerful pc which is connected via wireless to the wireless router in the living room - this connection isnt fast enough for me, whats the easiest solution to get a faster connection to the pc in the living room? am i best off ditching the bt router and getting a better, faster one and associated wireless card for the pc in the kitchen or is there an easier, cheaper solution?
many thanks in advance! gus

sorry, internal file transfer, i have a lot of h264 /.mkv films stored on the big computer - its stupidly slow to transfer and its hard just streaming a standard divx film.......internet usage is fine on both.

Wiring would only help with internal file transfer, no? The wireless should easily cope with the internet (unless he lives in a castle)

ah sorry - i cant wire them together - im in a rented flat and i want the deposit back sometime ; )

they are about 8 meters away from each other.....bit frustrating really !

If you're not going to wire the kitchen machine to the router the only other option is to upgrade the wireless network.

Best bet for large files would be a 802.11n router and wireless adaptor.

Personally though I would just run a wire from the kitch to the lounge and masking tape it to the skirting board

powerline networkign kti is an option, I haven't tried the 200mbit stuff they're selling but the older kit was pretty good and a reasonable speed...
