I am buying a new house and it comes with ethernet cabling, however, while the wall points are finished, they all terminate inside a box room, and there all I get is the cables hanging out of an opening on the wall.

I have done my share of ethernet cabling professionally over the past decade and have access to the tools, so the obvious choice based on what I have worked with is a patch panel, a small rack and a switch in that rack. But from the racks I have seen out there, they are generally of a set width, probably wider than I want.

Are there any other 'home friendly' smaller racks, and patch panels narrow enough to fit in them? Maybe something I can easily mount on the wall, in front of the opening the cables are coming out of?

Thanks in advance.

Google for Mini Patch Panel or Mini Cabinet and you should find a good selection of 10" cabinets and matching patch panels.

I grabbed a small 4u cab off of fleabay. Has served the job perfectly for a Patch Panel, 24port switch, cable management and KVM Switch.

In my folks office they've got what I can only describe as phone socket type little boxes that each have 4 or so sockets on them.

Have found some online but no idea if they are classed as a competitor, google cat5e 400 series and should be a simian themed link to them.

Thanks guys, found what I need thanks to your replies. (I'd post the link but it might be a competitor)
