Hi

I would like to get a new wireless phone set with answer machine.

Im not sure what to look at as its been a long time since we changed the home phone but our current one is playing up.

I have seen the Panasonic KX-TG8063 and 8563EB , can anyone recommend these , or can think of something better?

would need a trio set and have a budget of £80

cheers

I have a Panasonic KX something, the base unit has digital record, which has got temperamental.

So also looking for a replacement, after some searching I have narrow it down to the 'Siemens Gigaset CS3', has 25 minutes answer machine, available individually or sets of two, three & four.

I also like, understaterment adore the Siemens Gigaset SL785, very classy, has a 45 minute answer machine, it's pricey, but worth it.

After faffing around with various 'cheap' cordless handsets and experiencing patchy reception, apparent wi-fi interference and shocking battery life/degradation - I finally bit the cash outlay bullet and went for the Siemens Gigaset SL785 mentioned above. Now, whilst I'm not about to rave about the phone, I have found nothing whatsoever to grumble about in the intervening 8 months...and neither has the wife. Trust me when I say that in itself is a glowing recommendation ;)

S-Man: How do find the range, & reception any problems.

And the Gigaset SL785 offer a simple means of updating their software or adding functions via the Internet, have you tried this, any issues.

Hi there.

In terms of range, to be honest I'd probably describe it as 'adequate but unremarkable'. It's only right that I quantify my evaluation by saying that assessment is completely unscientific and basically comes down to 2 factors; 1. that they don't appear to have noticeably better range than some of my previous handsets and 2. they aren't quite up to the job of allowing me to make trouble free calls from my garage. In fairness though the garage is completely detached, made of metal and concrete and a good 15 meters from the base station so my expectations are quite probably unrealistic.

On the reception front...I would compare them to DAB vs FM radio - they aren't quite as on/off but generally speaking they are either absolutely perfect or so bad that I need to relocate. Again, this is in the context of making calls from my garage so the previous caveat applies.

To answer your final question...or not (I'm slightly embarrassed to admit!) I've never updated them since I received them. Given that I am a serial tinkerer and no appliance, fixture or gadget is immune from my meddling I can't quite explain my oversight. Rest assured I shall remedy the situation very soon and report back :D

I've been using Siemens Gigaset C595 since Dec 2009 and still really like it. The answer phone speaker quality on the handsets and base is particularly good compared to other DECT phones I've had in the past.

Call quality is clear and I've not had any issues with range but I do live in an apartment.

I see a lot of people buy Panasonics but I would say the Gigaset range is noticeably better.

I have a BT 6500 Quad set - bought it to replace my Calypso set as the screen and buttons on calypso were hard to see and operate with my eyes and hands.

Very disappointed with 6500 - But it may be my system - I had a fixed line phone at PC and also have a BT Flip phone and with Calypso it all worked perfect.

Now I find that the 6500 will not show caller display unless you let it ring almost till BT 1571 cut's in -- getting loads of No numbers showing although Flip phone works a treat and I have disconnected fixed phone -(Plug in)- Without Flip in 6500 works as should but that wasn't what I expected from a BT product that they are raving about.
