Hi all,

Excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject so bare with me :D

Some time ago I bought a pair of Devolo 200mb Home Plugs (Separate boxes)

I have one setup to my Xbox 360, the other to my PC. Now I only had to use one homeplug downstairs by the router, does this make the left over plug useless? I take it I can't use this homeplug on another networked device?

If this is useless can I buy another homeplug, different brand and it not affect the network at all?

Each one is just an ethernet bridge to the routing device, so you can use as many (compatible) devices as they allow. You're wording suggests you are using just one, which wouldn't do anything useful?

Yeah sorry, struggling to explain.

In each box there are a pair of homeplugs, out of the four plugs I have, I've only used three. One for the PC, one for the Xbox then I have another homeplug downstairs plugged into the router which is providing the bridge to the two upstairs.

Which means I have one left over.

Hoard it!? Use it!? The choice, as they say, is all yours :)

IIRC most brands can address up to 254 other devices in theory*, so by all means use it for something else. Anything with an ethernet socket, devices don't see the plugs, they are an invisible bridge

Well the reason I asked is it doesn't work :D

I did have some crazy logic that when buying homeplugs, the two in the box are like a master and slave and they must connect to each other.

Not sure why it didn't work then

:D

So this setup should allow three networked devices then the other plug at my router?

Pretty much. Network topography isn't my strong point but that diagram is a little off in that the plugs create their own network as far as I understand it. Kind of similar to a token ring (shudder) network.

Do those plugs have a "Pair" and reset button? The one that isn't working may be a member of a now no longer existing pair, if that makes sense. If so you could try to reset it
