Home router - Bandwidth problems

Hi

I have got quite a big problem with my home internet set up. Certain family members are extreme bandwidth hogs and refuse to stop there downloading no matter what I tell them.

I’ve currently got 3 computers hooked up to a Linksys BEFSR41 and a Zoom ADSL modem running the internet (unsure of model)

I will admit I very little about how routers and networks work but I need some sort of program that allows me to control the bandwidth usage of each computer connecting the router.

Each of the computers are just normal home pc’s there only connection is through the router

I have been searching around for these programs and from what I understand they all require that the computers are connected to a server of some sort.

I have also read something about QoS setting on a router, I’ve had a look in my router setting and couldn’t see anything about this.

If anyone has any advice or knows of such a piece of software that would let me perform this task I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Your router did have a highly primative form of QOS however I believe it was removed in later firmware versions and replaced with a file limit setting instead. Bottom line is you want a router that will do QOS, however the cheapest option may be something like a DDWRT flash on a WRT54GL as you have all sorts of options from that :D
