Hello guys just wanted your advice, i wanted to put up a Wireless CCTV camera at the side of my house, wanted any advice or recommendations. Nothing has happened just want it for peace of mind. But i would like it to be able to record to my Synology Nas. I have 2 access points in my house so signal levels should not be a problem.

Put a dome camera under the lower eaves, just the other side of the grey rain pipe, you should get a good face shot of someone coming through the gate.

Second choice would be this side of the door next to that air vent.

I'd also replace the bulkhead above the door, shining light into free space does nothing. A couple of 50W LED lights would be nice, a PIR one above the door linked to another one right by the gate.
Then people across the road can see your alley way has just lit up for some reason.

Don't buy a wireless camera like a foscam, they are junk.the best price/ performance picks on cctv/cam it forums (2 biggest enthusiast forums ) are the dahua 1.3 and 2mp cameras, they are sold in the uk under the qvis name.tech365 sell the 2mp bullet for 160, which is what I have.I have it setup to record in 1080p, no good getting a camera and not being able to make out faces. Will need a poe switch too to power it, costs around 60.

When I was at college many, many years ago, my instructor had one rule when installing security lighting, make sure it's fitted, at least 2.5 or 3 drunks high, & I still use that rule when fitting security lighting, satellite dishes & cctv today.

Ok thanks I was thinking of putting the CCTV on the side of the Fascia near the window on the 2nd pic, then i could wire it through the loft via the ventilation on the fascia. Would that camera be able to log in online and watch real time, I want it to be able to record to my NAS i have over 6tb of space on here.

Also while we are at it, i want to replace the fence with a Brick wall, how much do you think that would cost? the next door neighbors are a bit crappy in the sense they are a noisy thank god they only on rental. God knows how they afford the rent none of them work.

Yup, you can remote view easily simply using ip cam viewer for your phone or tablet, dahua dss is great also for remote viewing on your phone /tablet.You can also simply use the web browser to login to the cameras remotely. Its easy to record to a nas, the recording works by setting the camera to FTP the recording over to it, I've set it to record at 10fps 1080p.each camera simply has its own IP address on the network, simply type the address in your browser from home, put in the login/pass and there you can set if you want to FTP record, record only on motion detect, record full time, fps, res etc.Best bang for your buck is the qvis 2mp bullet camera, which is know as the dahua 3200s in the states and Asia, plenty of YouTube videos showing it.For switch to power and receive data down 1 Ethernet cable get either the tp link or dlink poe switches, both around 60 and both have 4 powered Ethernet ports.Recording 24 hours a day a 10fps/1080p best settings it will take you 24 weeks to fill up that 6tb.

A 1b wall would be £120 sq m for simple brickwork a good fence £60 linear meter

At night you'll have a nice (grainy) recording of the top of someone's head ;)

Try lashing up a camera to a long wire and then trying it out at night at all the locations suggested. Beyond a few metres at night you'll see nothing, but get a camera within 1m and you'll record a decent picture. Get some decent lighting on their face and it's better.

I was in charge of the CCTV box at work (installed by the crap CCTV company the CEO owned ).
All the outside cameras were useless, but the one I moved into the server room at eye level was enough to get a gang convicted after a break in

Cheers I will take that in to mind, but anybody know where the best place is to get one from? I know OC use to do them. true being that high only see somebody head lol

These are bang for buck one of best camers you can get

I have two of them, more than impressed. Makes my friends chep setup look embarrassing, in fact you cant make out anything with his setup.

Pair one of them cameras with a POE switch and your sorted, i would advise external lighting as that camera doesnt have IR. Therefore add external 20w LED PURE WHITE light and a PIR and it will remain in Day mode.

I have spent past few months reading and learning CCTV along with Alarm installation, finally have a decent setup. I use blue iris software for my server to manage the IP cams, plus the android client for blue iris to remote login.

IP cams are expensive for the good ones. Have a look here at ordinary wired ones, more bang for buck and an excellent site to boot http://www.cctv42.co.uk/cctv-camera-buying-guide.aspx

Junk unless you want to be tied to an overpriced nvr with a 500gb hd and then not be able to make out ****.IP cameras give you the flexibility to use them how you want. The domes the other guy mentioned are good, but useless for night unless you want to use your own ir lighting or planning on leaving the light on all night. All the 3200 series dahuas have similar video quality, so you'd be paying 70 quid more for a dome and no ir.

Little bump and help please? I'm looking at buying a camera to monitor a building site and house I'm building, and want to get a camera that will be able to save a picture every hour or set interval, either uploaded straight to the internet somewhere or to a SD card in the camera. Would either of these suffice for that? I'd have to buy a POE switch too as recommended in this thread (any particular one?), so I'd have just a single ethernet cable going to the camera that's monitoring the build.

Also, whats the difference between those 2, I cant seem to spot it?

Thanks for any help. :)
