Hi.

Well tried installing it on my Celeron 1.2 and 384mb box but it terminates when it realises you have less than 512mb ram, now I know it should run fine since server 2003 did run smoothly on it so is there anyway to get around it and force it to run even though I have less than 512mb ram? Maybe editing config files or something?

Can you borrow some more ram from another machine? Then once it's installed, take it back out again, sounds like its just another annoying check the installer does to make sure you're doing it right.

I cant it is using ancient old DDR ram and I dont have any more, its like pc133 or something, cant be bothered buying anymore really, must be a way to trick the installer or hack it.

Try Google for the old XP setup command line switches, I'm sure there is one to ignore the memory amount. It may still work for Home Server.

There is a way to bypass it with windows vista but I dont know anyway to get the command up in WHS setup and where to put these comand lines.

just use xp pro, shared folders and scheduled tasks

much much smaller, and it's more tried & tested imo

Yea but I liked the idea of that RDP or w/e it was with the console and sharing files even accessing them from away from home, its got XP on at the moment but has none of the features that made me interested in WHS.

acronis true image, onto a shared folder (for os + programs)
robocopy for other files (documents etc)

As a guide, the last time i checked, Acronis True Image workstation (has fully bootable bare metal restore ability over the network) cost around €55

So if I install Acronis true image on my server and share the folders from my main PC I can backup? Or I install onto server from main PC so it is running from the server?

I tried both Acronis true image and Symantec backup thing and they both failed to install that is why I am wanting something on the server to do it since that uses WinXP and the programs would install on that, I have norton ghost if that is possible for backing up server 2008 from my server?

When I was installing XP home onto a machine with very little ram I had the same error. So, I used nLite to remove "check mininum amount of memory".

Not too sure if this will work for you, though?
