Home server os help?

Hey peeps.

Re jigging my home server setup.

Thinking of trying some dedicated os rather than cut down win 7.

Need:

Plex media server
Squeezebox server
local file sharing

Using a python script at the moment to get plex to work on atv3, but would consider selling it for a roku or similar if it effects my os choice.

What to go for?

at the end of the day ubuntu or win 7 will do the job fine.

look into unraid.http://lime-technology.com/unraid-server/

You can mix and match drives, if a drive is not in use it goes to sleep. Think RAID 4 (dedicated parity) but each drive can be removed and accessed (each disk is setup for ext3 format )

It supports plex/squeezebox. Currently run plex on mine, with a nowtv in developer mode +plex!

Been looking at unraid. Would be ideal. Could just fog the atv3 and get a nowtv box.

try unraid with 3 disks , see what you think, try and break it! (rip out drive ) plug another one in, let it rebuild.

Also with the free version, you can run all the plugins (ie the plex etc.)

Also to add, you can run it in ESXI server (which is what i have) works great.
