I'm setting up a home server on an old machine. I'm going to VM a small network so will want 24GB RAM which is the maximum the motherboard will hold.

The motherboard in use is this

So I will need 6 x 4GB DDR RAM sticks. The cheapest I can find these new is about £170.

Ideally I want to spend less than that. I've been looking at ebay and I can find some server EEC memory which works out at about £100 for all 6. Not sure if this will work though?

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to go with this?

From the link you post, the motherboard doesn't support ECC memory. ECC memory is quite specialised and so tends to be restricted to server mobos.

On a slight tangent, do you really need 24Gb?
