Hello peoples,

It's my birthday in a month or so and I'm thinking about possibly upgrading the home server.

I use it for hosting a mumble server, occasional Arma server (small scale), media streaming, torrent box, remote media streaming and as a kind of cloud desktop.

Currently I'm using;
Q6600
Asus P5N-E SLI
8GB random no name ram
WD Blue HDD

I'm thinking about upgrading the above to something that will react a lot faster and feel a bit more fluid when RDP'ing onto it.

Was thinking of;
AMD 8320
M5A97
8GB of cheap DDR3 (possibly pushing up to 16GB later in the future.)

RAM could be overlooked as my current system has 32GB which I think is a bit overkill for a games machine.

Probably looking up to around £300 for the lot as will be retaining all other components.

Is it worth it?
Any other recommendations?

For what you've described, your current server is more than powerful enough. If it doesn't seem "fluid" when RDPing into it then it suggests you need to check all is well with your network. By example, I can RDP into my Windows VM on my Microserver over the 3G phone network and it's perfectly fluid.
