I'm torn between several options here. The overall aim is to build a low power (therefore efficient) home server that will have a few roles.

1) Backup of all files for the 6 computers attatched to the network
2) Serving media to PS3 (therefore encoding it) and Sonos
3) Running CCTV (6 cameras)
4) Remote access server

So I was wondering what the best route to go is. As an end result, I want something that is rack mountable, that will go in my so-called "Node Zero", and sit there, on 24/7. Obviously there will be a UPS for primarily the CCTV (and PoE switch), however there will be a secondary one to allow shutdown in case of a power cut.

Obviously there will be quite a lot of drive access, so would you recommend building two seperate servers, one for CCTV & remote access, and then another for the other tasks?

I plan on spending either £1200 (so either 2x £600 or 1x £1200) on only the CPU, motherboard, hard drives, power supply, RAM. Graphics card/sound card obviously doesn't matter at all.

What do you recommend is the best option to go for? Is it a good idea to look into Mini-ITX?

Cheers
