Are they any good?

Parents got 50% off a white one they fancy today, and me being clueless thought id ask here. :D

They are ok.....most are made by Magnet, but are Magnets cheaper range. Carcass walls are 2mm thinner, 16mm as opposed to 18mm average, when I last checked and so were the doors.
They also normally come flat packed so prepare yourself for an assembling fee from the fitter....this is labour intensive and time consuming.
Fitted one for my Mum couple of years ago and, tbh, it was tidy for the money.
Quality of finish is generally good and hardware is ok too.....if treated with respect it will last them 15+ years.

Fitted one to my last house, the carcasses are good and the doors and drawers are good but the hinges and runner let them down, get your worktop form somewhere else of good quality like Duropal

Yeah they can buy better, but are tighter than a ducks backside.

I'll leave them to it, they have minds like concrete anyway.

Permanently set and thoroughly mixed :D

If you have any friends in the trade you could get them to pick you up a howdens booklet, I used to work for them and the kitchen cupboards even come pre-built.

How are they on price? We got a booklet given to us by a salesman and they look fairly good.

Well her brother is a builder, but he's a marriage breaker and bit of a numpty, so i don't think she'll be going there :D

Don't worry i just wanted an idea, i''l let them know and leave them to it.

I don't tell them what to buy nowdays, as they just go against all my good advice anyway.

Tell them to wait.

The Homebase 50% off units runs all year whenever you buy 3 units or more. Only 2 months of the year where this doesnt happen which is June and November. Im sure when I checked their current offers are 50% off units when you buy 3 or more plus a further 20% off units. But this is going to change on either Tuesday or Thursday this week

Homebase will likely have a good sale on for July. It usually matches their January sale.

Nothing to stop your folks getting designs done and then waiting for the sale to come on If they want to save a bit of cash.

In terms of quality the carcases are pretty good and the door themselves are also nicely finished as long as you dont go for the cheapest of the cheap ranges. All their hinges come soft close as standard although drawers are an added extra if you want soft close. 10y guarantee on the units. I quite like them and if properly fitted they look fantastic.

Downside is they lead time on the kitchen stock is 4-6 weeks.

I would stay away from Howdens. They generally only deal with trade and the quality is pretty poor. If you have any damaged unit or issues down the line the customer service is almost non-existant. Tradesmen love them because they come pre-assembled and they can make more money on it.

we looked at these last year. I was quoted something like 3k for the kitchen and about £2500 for fitting  This did include fitting + plumbing + electrics mind.

Apparently they are getting the offer you mentioned, but haven't paid for it outright, it's just a designer coming round this thursday to have a nose around.

I told them to check the prices again when they come around, so we'll see what happens.

Thanks btw. :)

If it hasnt changed, they are made/supplied by Interior Solutions, its chipboard carcasses with mdf doors, check EVERY panel when its delivered, strip ALL the wrapping off and dont let the driver go untill you've done this.

If you have an issue with it, the first thing they'll throw at you is "didnt you check it whilst the driver was there?" ... Be warned, "NOT happy to help"

If they were quoted this weekend then they will have been quoted on 50% off units + 20% off units +15 off total (from the weekend event). The extra 15% from the weekend event will only be valid til tomorrow but the rest of the quote will be valid for 60 days from the date it was created.

Been asking around and the offers on units are about to dissapear for a month and prices are likely going up by a few quid at same time.

Homebase actually now operate a 7 day grace period giving you 7 days to check and verify the order is ok and nothing is damaged. If reported within the 7 days then it will be around 24-48 hours for a replacement. Outwith this 7 days it is 4-6 weeks

Returns dealt with centrally by Homebase themselves and not Interior Solutions now IIRC.

You sound like bit of an insider ;)

Thanks for the advice, they've taken it on board, well so far as they can anyway.

They're not fitting it anyway, so im sure if there's any issues it'll be sorted.

And if not all hell will break loose knowing me mum :D

The 50% is a price established promotion, i.e. the products are artificially set a a higher price to allow them to price crash at sale time. Almost all of the DIY/furniture places do this so it's not necessarily a bad thing, just don't base the decision purely on what you think is a great price deal.

I am a design consultant specialising in kitchens and bathrooms. Currently working part time for this particular shed while I finish my current degree ;)

Looking at one of your earlier posts I see your folks are looking at the Como range. This range is scheduled (but not confimed) for discontinuation later in the year. Just in case they are thinking of doing the utility or something in the same range at a later date.
