Homemade 3D with DSLR's

Ok so as a project I am looking to take up I want to make a 3D film, similar to that like Suzzie did off the Gadget Show with 2x Canon 550Ds. Now that is all great but I don't have 2x 550Ds however I can borrow 1 500D (hopefully find another

), just wondering how good the movie recording on the 500D is? I mean it says 1080P, obviously not but how does it compare to say a Sony Camcorder that does Full HD.
Would it be good enough to do a 3D film if I had 2?
And anyone actually tried to make a 3D film from 2x DSLR's?

No it wasn't a typo, its not the type of HD you get on sky, I mean it looks better but not awesome, thanks for the 720p tip

I'm taking an EPQ so its more of an idea than anything but I know it can be done and instead of writing a boring essay over the summer, I think making a 3D film would be awesome fun.

Thanks for all your suggestions btw and I hope it will work out, only thing holding me back is equipment

OP the 500D and the 550D both shoot 1080p but the 500D only shots at 20fp/s and no manual. Whereas the 550D can shoot at up to 30fp/s and fully manual. 1080p on the 500D is basically useless for this type of work. Two 550D's would be ideal, unless you drop both cameras down to 720p
