First off if this is in the wrong section can a mod please move it.

I came across a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCZ1BnwIvQg and it got me thinking of making something similar only out of wood, only i would want a really high gloss finish to the wood, and i am unsure how i would get this kind of finish, anyone any ideas ?

Anyone any ideas what would be a good substance to use for getting the dust to stick ? in the video he uses some kind of grease, but would anything else be better ?

Before I post anything, could you give me an idea of what you are trying to achieve first?
Air filtration for a fallout bunker or stopping dust from getting inside your PC?

I plan on setting this on my Desk near my PC, my plan is to use it to reduce dust around my PC and the room in general i suppose.

Get an ionizer, probably a better health benefit than blowing air at you all day.

A stocking might remove floating cat hair but that's about it, a proper carbon + HEPA filter will actually clean the air (but they are around £200-100)

A cheap version would be a Dyson HEPA filter (£7.00 eBay) driven by a fast fan. Obviously this can't match the throughput of a proper machine, but that's the trade off.
