Homemade hybrid drive with encryption

Hello,

I have a 2 TB HDD which stores all my personal stuff. The drive is encrypted (using truecrypt).

I'd like to use an old 64 GB SSD as a buffer (hybrid drive) but is it possible to do this and keep the encryption.

Many thanks,

I don't think it will be possible, and if it were, I doubt you would see a significant performance boost.

Intel RST allows a SSD to cache a HDD, you will need a compatible board.

Never done it myself but read it gives very good performance increase.

Intel Smart Response, or windows storage spaces tiered storage.

The intel option limits you to 64gb cache, but that's fine in your case. The Windows option requires you to configure it on Server 2012, but it will then operate fine on Windows 8.1/10.

Thanks, I don't have windows 8 or 10. I'm not sure I will use windows beyond Win7 so not an option for me.

I tried the ISR from bios but it will not let me accelerate any of my drives, googling leads me to believe it will only work on the system drive (which is already a SSD in my case).
