Homemade Mega Torch awesomeness

He's a crazy dutch guy which kinda explains it hehe.

Its kinda frightening that he got sunburn from the torch though

What he wants to do is hook one up to some sort of remote control plane / helicopter and pretend its a UFO / Aleins with a tractor beams trying to abduct people hehehe

and cook dogs sunburn people and generally attack foke. do it in texas and at least 20 people will say they were attacked/abducted/probed by the aliens

I could certainly do with a cut down version (less bright, less hot) for the times when I'm putting out house fires. I think one of these puppies would illuminate the inside of a house in the same way that fires are depicted in film and tv rather than having to put up with the crap batteries I'm issued with and not being able to see my hand in front of my face .

Any more info on this?

5D maglite -
reflector replaced with Alu one,
plastic lens replace with high temp class,
whole switch mech replaced with soft start circuit
65W OSRAM IRC bulb overdriven to ~140W
5 x 3.7v Li-Ion cells giving ~18v

4000+ Lumens, and can also be used as a heatgun (it sets newspaper on fire and shrinks heatshrink). :D

Would that be enough to burn a hole through somebody, as though it were a high-power laser beam? :)

If the bulb is 140W, and outputting maybe 100W of light after uv being blocked. Then it possibly could if the beam was coherent enough and the person stood there for a while. Of course though that would be over a very short distance as normal light loses coherence rapidly. It would be better to build a 100W co2 laser for burning things. :)

Pictures etc would be great. How much did the whole project cost?

Are the HID torches good?
