Hi, I have been running a 5 meter cat5 cable through the living room due to a poor located phone line. To get the phone line moved would cost in excess of £40.

I have read some details about homeplugs and think they would be ideal.

The router is plugged into the main phone line but as above this is over 5 meters away from the pc. At the back of the pc I have a spare plug sckt and also next to the router.

Can you give me any advise on this technology, things to look out for and brands NOT to buy.

Idealy I want second hand off the MM due to cost and have placed an add; but seen some on a well known auction site for £21 inc P&P brand new as below.

DEVOLO HOMEPLUG 85 MPBS BRAND NEW

I only use the pc for my internet this runs currenly at just below 3mb per second (long way from the exchange).

regards

Thanks for the replys, I suppose I could run the current Cat5 cable outside through the wall but the mrs not to keen on me drilling holes and I kinda like the idea of this been simple to just plug in the homeplugs and hey presto.

Been reading up on the different types and speeds and security. I am not after owt flash but something that will offer a solid stable network. The house is only just 10 years old so the wireing is sound and see no problems ther.

Devolo seem to be a well named brand when it comes to homeplugs but as never used tem or to be honest new they existed until a week or two back just after any cons to this technology

This sounds like the way to go for me then. As long as I get above 3mb and looking at the 85mb kits should easy handle what am looking for.

Like I say the router in in the hall and the PC in the living room distance in a straight line in 5m or even less but going round the skirting boards or having to drill through walls does no appeal to me. Approx double in length (10m) if going round skirting boards.
