Hey guys,

Got a TP-LINK AV200 Mini Powerline Starter Kit today so i can use the Laptop downstairs instead of using Virgin Medias crappy wireless dongle and Superhub junk.

Its working great,But i was wondering...Is it still effectively a wireless connection between both the adapters?

Do i need to set up a password?....there was an option in the TP link software to do so but i was just wondering if that was to stop just anyone plugging in.:p

I'm not too goo with Networking at all.

appreciate the replies.

cheers.

No, its wired. Using the power lines in your house to send the signal :)

You don't need to, but if you have close neighbours it might be a good idea to - I'm sure someone on here have someone connecting to his network from across the street (must have been very good adaptors!)

Much much better than wireless - good decision :)

Thats great,Il try and set up a password on it tomorrow and see how it goes,But yeah its soooo much better that my old Wireless it just works! :D

Thanks for replying. :D

50mb mate,Just got the Internet with them.

I done a speedtest downstairs on the laptop using the new power lines and get just under 40mb download,On my wired connection upstairs on the main comp i get around 47-48mb which isn't too bad.

What about putting on MAC address filtering too? So anyone who plugs into your connection without you knowing won't have a working connection.

I'm receiving mine tomorrow and I can't wait to try out this new technology! Well to me it is.

I've got BT Infinity 80/20 but can only get the full speeds reliably when connected via ethernet. WiFi speeds are all over the place :(

so does it matter if they aren't on a ring main? or are on several ? I am also seriously thinking of this for my A/V rig in the Sitting Room.. the blu ray has eth0 and so does the tv!!

If they aren't on a ring main then the speed hit each adaptor takes is bigger than otherwise but should still work
