I've just upgraded to Infinity FTTC and am using the OcUK 85Mbps homeplugs that were on offer a while back to pass the internet upstairs from the router. Now the connection rate I am getting on the Utility is 79 Mbps which is fantastic and I am really pleased with, but the throughput that I am getting on a speed test for infinity doesn't go above 5Mbps (although the up gets to 7). Checking on another PC which is hardwired into the router I can see that currently (whilst the line settles) we can get 16 down.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this could be so limited?

What speed do you get when transferring over your local network from one machine to another?

Somewhere between 6-7Mbps when copying a file from the computer on the other end of the Homeplug, nowhere near the 79Mbps the plug is registering a connection at.

Have you tried plugging them in to plugs in the same room and seeing how they perform?

Think this is an issue with 85Mbps, as I had a set of the 85Mbps ones and I was getting the same as you, now I have the 500mbps ones i get the full speed I should get. I have a 50Mbps line.

Thanks for all the advice (especially True_Scotsman), went out and bought some TPLINK 200Mbps ones getting quality of around 80-100% with a throughput of 160Mbps and now my steam folder is suffering as I can finally get all the larger games I've bought and not wanted to download on non infinity! Loving 6MB/s downloads :D

Note to anyone else, don't bother with the Addon 85Mbps home plugs as they seem to be seriously flawed!
