I'm currently on ADSL2 but looking at switching over to FTTC shortly. At the moment my router is at one end of the flat and I'm using old Devolo 85meg homeplugs to the front of the flat to feed my HTPC.

My line syncs at around 18meg and if I fully saturate my line I get about 2 meg/sec download rate next to the router. The HTPC only gets about 900k per sec in the living room.

If I move to FTTC I'd like to increase the download capabilities of the HTPC and I'm wondering if higher spec homeplugs will make a difference or whether or my speeds are being limited by crummy wiring/interference and therefore faster homeplugs would just be a waste of time.

I know I could (and should!) run ethernet cable but, frankly, I can't really be bothered.
