Hi all,

I currently have two ethernet solwise homeplugs connected to improve my PS3 connectivity. I was wireless but have now gone hardwired via the use of homeplug. It works a treat.

So much so I wanted to then introduce a wifi homeplug to improve my terrible wifi signal upstairs.
I spoke with Solwise & they said it would work a treat.
I've bought one (11g WiFi Ethernet Home plug adapter) & indeed it works straight out of the box (comes up as 'powerline'), I connect my ipad & bingo... online.

However, it doesn't ask me for a password!
Therefore I'm not happy using it until sorted.
The reviews on the 'jungle' site I got it from said that the manual is awful & to ignore it... unfortunately I am not an IT guru.

For starters the URL address it gives me to enter settings, security included - 192.168.1.1 just takes me to my Netgear DGND3300 v2 settings Grrrrr

Any help would be top

Many thanks in advance

Is it a PL-200AV-PEW?

Have you tried reading the manual? I've just a quick look and it seems to explain everything you'd need to know (with pictures).

If the above doesn't apply try this...

Access the DGND3300 configuration pages.
Somewhere in there in should have a list of the connected devices and the assigned ip addresses.
One of the connected devices should hopefully be the solwise access point.
Use the assigned ip address to access the access point's configuration pages.

hi sorry for late reply.
Its a NET-PL-85PEW_MK2
Manual is a mare. I called Solwise, they said there is a conflict between your Netgear & the solwise unit. So turn off the Netgear then enter the 192.168.1.1 & everything will be ok.
Trouble is, as soon as I turn off the Netgear I have an error message when trying to put in the IP.
I'll have a look at your other ideas now

Cheers

I'd agree that the manual for the NET_PL-85PEW_MK2 is pretty awful.

If you're still stuck have a look at the manual for the PL-200AV-PEW. The steps described to access the configuration pages should be more-or-less the same.

You'd have to manually set an IP once you'd turned the router off. The homeplug devices won't issue IPs themselves but you should be able to just copy what the router assigned though.

Hate to disappoint but I am such a noob at this stuff.
Anyways I don't now how I got to it but I managed to get into the internet protocol version 4 properties & changed the IP to 192.168.1.100.
Then I was able to enter URL 192.168.1.1 which brought up the powerline settings... fluke, complete & utter fluke.
Anyway I've managed to set the security settings but I'm having trouble keeping them stable. The ipad wants to log on to the powerline but its still coming up with no password.
Back to the settings once more dear friend

not sur about that wifi homeplug specifc device but often you have to save the settings after changing them to make them stick,

occasionally you may have to restart the device as well.

sometimes a browser will not work correctly to save the settings (just been thorugh this on a router with firefox) if not try a differnent one

When you get on the Powerline Access Point web configuration, first make sure to change the powerline ip from 192.168.1.1 to something else like 192.168.1.254 and note that in your manual. Save settings/apply and It'll probably want to restart to take effect.
Then you can change your pc back from 192.168.1.100 to 'auto' settings, and connect to the Powerline Access Point web page on 192.168.1.254 without problems.

Once in find the security setting section and you'll want to set up a WPA2 encryption with a password and save/apply the new settings. It might be worth renaming the Access Point too to something more personally recognisable.
