I'm fed up with the slow speeds I'm geting with my wireless so I've decided to get one of these http://www.edimax.co.uk/en/produce_detail.php?pd_id=306&pl1_id=11&pl2_id=41. Will this give me similar speeds to Ethernet and is it as simple as connecting the homeplugs into the sockets directly and connecting the homeplug to the router and the other homeplug to the computer by ethernet?

Homeplug speeds can vary quite a bit. Factors such as quality of internal wiring, circuits, interference etc but 99% of people get better performance using them than wireless. The software you get with them will show you current speeds when they're both plugged in.
