Alright Guys..

Ive got 50 mg virgin broadband with the super **** hub.. my PS3 is downstairs and streaming movies is poor from my Mac to PS3.. what do you reckon i should buy? homeplugs? or a new router?

thanks

Route some Cat5/6 in your house would be the best way.

However since that's not an option I'd say get some homeplugs. I'm guessing the PS3 is connected by wireless right? No matter what router you get right now it's wireless won't beat the homeplug.

Homeplugs are better suited for streaming... dependnig on models, you may get a higher peak speed through wireless-n, but you will also have major lows; but homeplugs will give a solid and consistent throughput that should be sufficient for streaming HD.

I have Virgin 50MB with the router downstairs and running homeplugs to the PC upstairs. Not had a single problem and saves the hassle of dragging the cat5 cables all over the place.

200mb homeplugs should be ok. There are 500mb and 1gb ones but the improvement over 200mb ones is questionable unless you're practically in the same room!

If it is just for streaming movies then 200Mb is adequate. Only spend money on higher speeds if moving network data between, for example, computers and/or NAS.
