Hi,
I'm currently on UK Online's (now defunct) 24mbps LLU package, SYNCed at 22.5mbps. Over ethernet (I use cat6) the speeds are phenomenal at around 2600 to 2700 KB/sec solid. Thank God for LLU and no BRAS profile!
Typically, however, one of the PCs is right the other side of the house (on a different floor) to the router, and ethernet just isn't feasible. I've been using a Netgear WG311T PCI card (due to it's ease of use in Linux using Madwifi), but since more people in the area have gotten wifi broadband my connection is terrible.
The connection graph when downloading looks like an ECG (lol), constantly jumping in speed from 2300K/sec down to 1500, then drops to zero, and up and down etc...
I've been looking at the homeplugs/powerline ethernet kits, and since I'm on 24mbps service I believe the older 85mbps kits may not give me full throughput. I was looking at the Netgear HDXB101 kit (200mbps) and also the similar D-LINK kit (both sold by OCUK) and wondered if anyone had any thoughts? Are there any major brand differences (eg Devolo v Netgear v D-Link v Max Value etc).
The (electrical) wiring on the house is brand new as of a year or so ago, so that shouldn't be an issue. Would I see decent speeds on 85mbps kits or are the 200mbps kits worth the extra considering my SYNC? I don't want to shell out ~£50 on an 85mbps kit only to find out that my throughput is half of my SYNC, so maybe 200mbps is the way to go no matter what?
Here's my current stats (tweaked down using UberGT fw on a DG834GT):
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 22507 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 21.5 db 12.5 db
Noise Margin 3.4 db 17.0 db
Thanks in advance,
Lee
